Working on that little comic again. Colour is hard. I think I have an overly romantic view of Sydney, but it really is a beautiful city. Perth has better sunsets though!
Finally! A colour change in that comic I am working on about the lack of employment opportunities in the arts industry in Western Australia.
Jakarandas are Australia’s response to Japan’s Cherry Blossoms, just purple!
Town Hall is beautiful at this time of the year.
I’ve always been partial to Jakarandas, we used to have one in the backyard,
before the white ants got to it.
Ever since my litle old benQ scanner broke things have never been quite the same.
Joel & Sam Adair from The Bagatelle Card Club.
page o7 of that comic I’m working on. I realize since Inio Asano exists, the world probably doesn’t need another comic about the ennui of twenty-something year olds with mediocre lives, but this is my personal catharsis so whatever.
Page 6! Naturally posted before pages 4&5 hah hah.
This was pretty difficult because I took a long break between drawing due to wedding and conference preparations (1 week!) I’ll be in Sydney the day after tomorrow, and from there Melbourne for a month!
Getting back into the swing of things, a panel from page 6, I still need to fix up some stuff. My girlfriend gave me a copy of Blacksad which I use as a pillow hoping to osmose that awesome skill in my sleep! Juanjo Guarnido is a panelling deity!
(this comic is taking a while because I am still trying to work out how colours work!)
Working on this comic is fun and invigorating, I wish I had more time to do it! On the flipside science is going well; I got to speak to two nobel laureates last week (Barry Marshall & Rolf Zinkernagel), they were so chill and makes me want to better myself in all aspects of my life.
Page 3 of that comic I’ve been working on. phew!
One of the odder public sculptures in Sydney is Islay the Talking Dog.
It’s not that concept itself, as I am sure there are hundreds of talking dog statues the world over, no the truly surreal aspect of this particular hound is that he has the prerecorded voice of John Laws which is a lot, uh, more deep and booming than one would think befitting of a little Yorkshire mutt. But hey I’m no Doolittle, maybe they all talk like that!
Colours are a little eh on this one, oh well.
po2. Full colour is taking me a while. Had a tough day data crunching like crazy!
Before anyone says I am drawing sameface, these guys are actually brothers. Thanks to wratshit for her help on the second panel! She’s such a good artist. ‘A’
Trying out a different way of drawing comics. Very influenced by Tadahiro Uesugi. Possibly I will break my wrist drawing the whole thing in colour, but I’m learning a lot along the way. C:
Joel Adair.
Finished this 40 page comic last night. Now I can stop blaring noisy post-punk and annoying the shit out of everyone in a 10m radius. Or not. Zing!
